Neum

Neum is a municipality in the extreme south of Bosnia and Herzegovina and is the only exit to the Adriatic Sea of the country.

Thanks to long and warm summers, short and mild winters, Neum is considered one of the coastal towns with the highest number of sunny days a year.

Since ancient times, the area of Neum has been known as a significant crossroad that led from the coast to the hinterland. Neum was first mentioned in the 4th century, in 533, under the name “Neuense”. Until 1718, Neum was part of the Republic of Dubrovnik, when it was handed over to the Turks for the needs of ships and the supply of military units in the hinterland. In 1878, Neum and the rest of Bosnia and Herzegovina became part of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, until the end of the First World War in 1918. In the second half of the last century, the first resorts, hotels and other tourist facilities emerged.
